I was just talking about the feeling of connection I have with my neighbor, a reclusive, solo guy. We shovel each other’s sidewalks too. On the days he’s been there first, I look out my door and feel cared for. Like I’m not along in this project of maintaining a home. I hope he feels the same.

I love this.

I get this feeling from filling a wheelbarrow with horse manure, or going to the post office and talking to others waiting in line (instead of looking at my glowing rectangle), or shopping for groceries and cooking dinner, and of course running and making eye contact and saying hello to others along the way. Last night around 2 a.m., I woke up and literally felt dread and anxiety about the news. This morning, life goes on and I’ll do what I can, like speak out or sign a petition but then touch the horses and shovel their manure.
